How do I know if my car has raised rails?

Look along the roof from the side of the car. Raised rails run front to back and sit on small feet, so there is an open gap between the rail and the roof panel — you can slide your hand underneath. That gap is what the VENUS clamps close around. If your rails lie flat against the roof with no gap at all, they are flush rails and you need a different range.
