Roof bars for cars with fixed points

Fixed point cars have no rails at all, but the manufacturer has built dedicated mounting points into the roof. They are hidden under small plastic covers, flaps or trim strips, usually two on each side. Lift the cover and you find a threaded hole or a metal bracket. Bars in this collection bolt straight into those points, which makes them the strongest and most stable of all the fitting types.

The 10-second check

  1. Look along the edge of the roof, where the roof meets the door opening.
  2. Open a door and look at the top of the door frame.
  3. Look for small plastic covers, flaps or a trim strip, normally two per side.
  4. If you can lift a cover and see a threaded hole or bracket, you have fixed points and you are in the right place. If the roof is completely smooth with nothing to lift, you have a bare roof instead.

Why the roof type matters

Roof bars are not universal. Fixed point bars bolt into holes that only exist on cars designed for them, and no clamp-on kit will use those points. Choosing the wrong type is the single most common reason a roof bar set gets returned, so it is worth the ten seconds to check before you order.
